In the ongoing shtuffle (shuffle + stuff = shtuffle), we have swapped dining room tables with my parents. They have the table that used to belong to J & J, then me, and now them. I have their big ol' table that fits surprisingly well in our dining room. I haven't tried the leaf in it yet, but will for tomorrow.
Tomorrow I/we host Thanksgiving for the first time. Charles gets to deal with the bird (meaning the turkey, not me). It'll be fun cook, chow down, and inaugurate the table's new digs.
Thanksgiving is possibly one of my favorite holidays, not necessarily because of the food, but because it's very easy to find real meaning in this celebration. Christmas has its moments, but I'm generally conflicted trying to relate to its various origins, and usually conclude that it's a celebration in consumerism. It's not that I don't like buying things for people. It's just that I don't like some vaguely religious holiday telling me when to do it. Anyway, back to T-day, it's simple: I'm extremely thankful for all the wonderful things in my life, most importantly my friends and family. I am blessed with knowing some of the coolest people on the planet, and I am who I am because of them.
Hope you all enjoy a wonderful holiday!
